Scandalous Sponsorship

Re: Show extolling Thai sex trade got tax credit from Ottawa (22 November 2003)

Sir,

As one of Canada's many overburdened taxpayers, I cringe whenever I see the 'Canada film or video production tax credit' at the end of any television program made in this country. This is especially so when it is a program of questionable content, such as the forementioned travel program, or those featured late at night on cable television channels such as Showcase or The Comedy Network.

I don't know of any other country that wears its government subsidies on its sleeve as much as Canada does, when it comes to producing, selling and showing its productions at home and abroad. Private broadcasters should remain private, and those who live by the sword can die by the sword when it comes to their own funding.
